Open to anyone from age 14 upwards and perfect for the DofE Gold Residential award, this trip will take you across the North Sea to either Belgium or The Netherlands depending on the weather and back again To Ispwich after an exhilirating journey on a traditional Lowestoft fishing smack. The North Sea can be cruel or kind, but either way, you'll be safe on Excelsior's broad deck and under the instruction of our highly experienced professional crew. You'll learn all you need to know to get the most out the trip and have an experience that you'll remember forever and want more of!
About your destination: Starting at Ipswich's Beacon Marina, you'll be welcomed aboard by our skipper and crew and given a cuppa before sorting out your bunk, getting a safety brief and shown around the on- and below- decks areas. The skipper will talk through the plan and which destination you'll be heading for before getting ready to slip lines for a gentle motor down the River Orwell and out into the North Sea. The boat keeps sailing through the night so everyone will be in a watch system of 4 hours on deck - amazing at night! - and 8 hours off to sleep and attend to domestic duties including cooking and cleaning. Everyone is encouraged to take part in as much as they can to really get the most of the experience. Once you arrive at the European destination, you'll have time for an explore and perhaps a short trip to a different port if time and wind and weather allow, before heading towards home on another overnight adventure.
